gas alarms

Two types of alarms can occur:

1) empty gas bottle notification:

Strictly speaking this is no alarm, but a signal that the gas distribution system in bld. 908 switches to a new gas bottle. It is expected that this "alarm" occures from time to time, wich indicates that the system is working properly!  Nevertheless, the gas bottles should be checked by the shift crew.
Actions to be taken by the shift crew:

2) flammable gas alarm:

siren and flashing panels in the hall ( it is considerably louder than alarm no. 1!)

Actions to be taken by the shift crew:

  • acknowledge  alarm by pressing  the button
  • call expert  (Deputy TC: Eric Weise or GLIMOS/TC: Gerhard Mallot) AND call TCR  - in case of an level 3 alarm, the TCR technicians and the fire brigade will arrive automaticaly
  • check which detection head caused the alarm: the panel is in the flammable gas detection system racks (lower level, next to the RICH barrack) but don't touch it! The head can be identified by its number (list is attached to one of the racks).
  • call expert of the concernd detector - in case of an alarm at least the gas system has to be checked and restarted but eventually an leak search has to be performed (for this case an detector expert should be present)
