Nr of students 1 Profile of students: Physicist Computer knowledge: C++:Databases:UNIX Project content in % (Physics/Engineering/ Computing) The physics and special issues involved in the measurement will be explained by the superviser. Computing tools and corresponding informations will be provided by experts present at CERN. Some physics and technical notions (principle and operation of the detectors and their Front End electronics) will be also be provided to the student. Project content will be half physics and half computing. Project proposal: The COMPASSS experiment studies hadron structure. During the summer 2012, pion and muon beams will be scattered on nucleon targets in order to study pion polarisability (deformation in electric and magnetic fields). Excellent performance of large area particle trackers is required. The proposed work will focus on quasi online data analysis with the goal to quantify and optimize the tracking precision and efficiency.
