Installation of a straw drift chamber used for large area tracking in the COMPASS experiment. One of the 15 double layers of straw drift chambers in COMPASS will be replaced by a new one. This has an active area of 8 m2 and consists of 704 tubes. The project includes the finalization of the chamber after its delivery to CERN, its testing and commissioning and final installation into the COMPASS experiment. Depending on the student`s level and skills, the project could be adapted to include offline analysis topics with a focus on Large Area tracking.
