Minutes from target meeting held May 9 2014 in 892-1-B09 These minutes are available also from: http://wwwcompass.cern.ch/compass/detector/target/Minutes/2014/ a) Pump isolation vacuum to the magnet and dilution cryostat from noon on Tuesday April 29 with small 12 m^3/h rotary pump. The pumping is done slowly in about 3 hours not to create pressure difference between the inner and outer parts of the microwave cavity. On Wednesday morning 0.2 mbar pressure reached. Connect helium leak detector and start pumping in parallel with the rotary pump. 0.03 mbar vacuum pressure reached by Friday morning. Leak test outer vacuum vessel on Friday morning by spraying helium gas on the connection flanges and o-rings. Let helium into separator and open vertical screen outlet. Let helium into evaporator and open pressure gauge outlet on the top flange. Put helium into cavity pumping line. Let helium to flow into mixing chamber volume while target plug is in place. No helium leaks were observed below ~10^-9 mbar l/s on the leak detector display. Stop pumping the vacuum on Friday afternoon. 0.11 mbar pressure reached by Monday morning. Let in air slowly. The atmospheric pressure reached in 3 hours. b) On Monday May 5 afternoon start to install new diffusion vacuum pump Edwards Diffstak 160/700 on the magnet vacuum port. The pressure switch installed on Wednesday. The diffusion pump volume leak tested with the pneumatically-actuated high-vacuum isolation-valve closed. The new pump needs a backing pressure gauge for safe operation. The Schneider PLC is in the control, but the cables between the PLC and target platform need to be pulled and the PLC needs to be programmed for correct functions. Also the pressured air connection needs to be done. c) New target cells 2 x 55 cm and 4 cm in diameter received from Bochum on Wednesday. The cells need to be assembled together with the longitudinal support rods and central microwave stoppers. The cell ends are now re-enforced with Kapton foil in case of break down due to radiation damage. The helium-3 filling tube, NMR coils and thermometers need to be installed too. d) Jaakko: plot the target holder stainless steel beam window NA58PT20131106-1, Kevlar tube fixing piece NA58PT20130809 and upstream microwave stopper/cable guide NA58PT20131129 in real size as requested by the CERN main workshop. The target holder assembly drawing NA58PT20130813-1 with material filling hole positions plotted in scale 1:2. The Kevlar tube to be drilled was delivered to the main workshop. e) Fabrice: the cable trays below the target platform need to be re-enforced to stand the weight of the power cables. New cable trays need to be installed on the floor. The LHe transfer line to the buffer dewar from the liquefier was installed. About 50 % of the welding job for the magnet quench vent line and helium-3 pumping line already done. Flexible connection pipes from magnet turrets to safety valves need to be done. f) Kaori: old NMR rack disassembled. The VME crate from the rack is in the office now. The water cooler and power switch rack are stored in the basement of 892. The Q-meter modules and Yale-cards are going to be reused for run 2014. g) Norihiro: first version of the new servomotor control system tested. Both local manual control and remote control via Profibus of the needle valves is possible with the new system. h) The target control and monitoring integration to the DCS system was discussed. The magnet is using UNICOS and DIP server can be used to publish different parameters. See http://cern.ch/dim and http://cern.ch/dip . Norihiro: the target PLC Siemens S7 300 needs to read status of the diffusion pump for isolation vacuum and status of the magnet operation. These can be probably done with one or two digital input modules (one module has 4 digital inputs). The possibility to publish the NMR data with a DIM server was discussed. The LN2 buffer dewar weight in the pump room could also be read and monitored with a RS485 serial connection. A voltmeter needs to be added to the dilution cryostat monitoring system. This is needed for example for the helium-3 vapor pressure thermometry during TE-calibration.
