Minutes from target meeting held February 24 2012 in 892-2-009 These minutes are available also from: http://wwwcompass.cern.ch/compass/detector/target/Minutes/2012/ a) Jaakko: Gaussian fit to the thermal equilibrium signals from the ammonia loaded and empty target cell 2010. Small maximum about 200 ppm instability of the magnetic field seen by the downstream NMR coils due to shorted G2 trim coil in the magnet. An anomalous jump in the coil #2 seen during 1.4 K TE-calibration. The second moments of the loaded ammonia signals are 440 - 620 kHz^2 while for the empty target cells the signals become wider 480 - 1300 kHz^2. See http://wwwcompass.cern.ch/elog/target_polar/161 b) Kaori: recalculate the 2010 Curie constants with updated thermal equilibrium temperatures. The constants for different coils are now 0 - 5 % higher than those calculated by Jaakko. Since the used temperature values are close to the same the difference must come from the integration of the NMR-signals. See http://wwwcompass.cern.ch/elog/target_polar/164 c) Norihiro: possible reason for the difference is the residual baseline subtraction, which can be done using either a linear fit or a parabola. Check the TTH4 and TTH5 thermometers for the 2010 thermal equilibrium calibration. Good agreement between these two thermometers. d) Jaakko: produce noise free NMR test data and set the temperature error to zero. Agreement between Jaakko and Kaori for this data is better than 0.03 %. See http://wwwcompass.cern.ch/elog/target_polar/166 e) Description of the SMC proton target error analysis can be found from NIMA 437 p. 23-67. In the calculation of the average target cell polarization the coils were weighed by the relative error for each coil. The sampling theorem introduced in the paper gives similar error (2 - 3 %) in the case of the 2010 data. f) Fabrice: remove the magnet from the target platform on Thursday and crane it upstream of the entrance door to the experimental zone. The magnet safety system racks will be removed later. The platform power is turned off. Help from CERN technicians will be needed when opening the microwave cavity. g) Kaori: move the Q-meter boxes to the office and the Yale-card rack to the control room. h) Pump room heating was discussed. One possibility is to purchase an automatic air heater, that will keep the temperature above freezing. The other possibility is to install anti-freezing electrical tape heater on the water pipes. Both of these need of course electricity and do not work in case of long electrical shutdown.
