Minutes from target meeting held November 18 2010 in 926-1-039 These minutes are available also from: http://wwwcompass.cern.ch/compass/detector/target/Minutes/2010/ a) On Monday 9:00 to longitudinal 2.5 T field. Measure polarizations -76.5 %, +76.2 % and - 75.3 %. Restart polarizing. Tuesday 16:00 -83.3 %, +83.8 % and -82.2 % reached. Continue transverse data taking in 0.63 T dipole field. b) Planning for the weekend before beam stop on Monday 22 November 8:00 was discussed. c) Fabrice: water filter replacement in the pump room foreseen. Needs some plumbing work. No brute cooling water available from December 14 to February 25. d) Radiation level from the Drell-Yan hadron absorber was discussed. The thermal neutrons react with helium-3 and produce tritium, proton and 0.76 MeV of kinetic energy. The glass fiber can also contain boron-10, which has a high probability to absorb a neutron. The target metallic shell and liquid helium could help to thermalize the neutrons. The semiconductors are also sensitive to this dose. This includes the thermometers on the target cells. The magnet epoxy impregnated coil could also suffer and the o-rings age faster.
