Minutes from target meeting held October 17 2008 in 892-2-009 These minutes are available also from: http://wwwcompass.cern.ch/compass/detector/target/Minutes/2008/ a) Norihiro: plot maximum achieved proton polarization at 2.5 T from Bochum, EMC and COMPASS versus the minimum mixing chamber temperature. The temperatures were about 200 mK, 130 mK and 40 mK. A dilution cryostat with low base temperature helps clearly to get higher polarization. b) Yuri: the Weiss mean field theory fails to predict the NMR lineshifts in polarized ammonia. The polarized proton spins can interact through the binding electrons with the nitrogen-14 spins. The interaction of an unpaired electron with a nearby nucleus is much stronger than the neighboring nuclear dipole-dipole interaction. c) Jaakko: interest from the GPD group on the magnet and dilution cryostat isolation vacuum separation idea for integration of the RPD to the polarized target. d) Kaori: possible incomplete filling of the target cells could be considered in the dilution factor calculation. See the talk from Barbara in the last analysis meeting.
