Minutes from target meeting held May 21 2004 in 888 a) Contributions and participations to the Spin-Praha 2004 and Spin 2004 at Trieste were discussed. For the latter abstracts should be send before June 6 to the publication committee. At Trieste we should have one talk on the COMPASS polarized target. b) Gluing of the Yamagata mixing chamber to the steel flange will take place next week. c) The air blockage in the heat exchangers of the still pumping line was removed by circulating helium gas in the dilution cryostat. The mixing chamber was warmed to 82 K and the evaporator to 99 K in 2 days. The circulating gas during purging before the LN2 trap was analyzed to be helium 88 %, H2 2 %, H2O 5 %, N2 4 % and CO2 1 %. The helium from the trap was removed with a rotary pump and the trap was warmed up to 300 K. The impurities increased the pressure from -1 atm to +2 atm in the trap during warming up. The activated charcoal was pumped for 3 hours and new helium circulation in the dilution cryostat was started. After 12 hours the trap was warmed up again and no impurities were found. Normal dilution cryostat operation was recovered in 1 day and the polarization was started. On Sunday evening +54 % and -47 % polarizations have been reached. d) The trim coil currents had to be tuned from last year for polarization. Two of the EuroTest power supply displays show unstable currents and voltages while the currents recorded by Sun are stable. e) The water cooling of the NMR rack was discussed. The pt100 recording the temperature to the DCS was moved to the water outlet of the Q-meters. After 72 hours the temperature has stayed between 24.2 - 25.6 C. The alarm levels are now set to 20.0 C and 28.0 C. The new air condition system installed last August is using large fraction of the target platform cooling water. Possibility to decouple this water system from the target cooling was discussed with the technical coordinator. At 33 % the polarization increased by 1 % absolute when the nominal 24 C temperature was recovered after the anomalous temperature of 35 C. f) Stepan is analyzing the helium-3 thermometer results during the TE-calibration period. The TE-calibration will be repeated during the scrubbing run in June. g) Field rotation was tested by going from 417 A to -417 A and back. The dipole shut amplifier connected to the ELMB showed 479 mV with 650 A dipole current.
