Minutes from target meeting held on 21st of March 2003 in 892-1-B09 a) Gerhard said that a new hard disk will be installed to the NMR PC for testing Windows NICE 2000. Jaakko asked if the system will be stable enough with the CERN network connection. Gerhard said that the old system will be preserved in the old hard disk in case of problems. b) Yuri presented calculations about dispersion corrected polarised NMR signals. Q meter nonlinearity could possibly explain difference in measured positive and negative polarisations. The amplitude of the negative signal is higher with same absolute value polarisation. 2001 data was used in the analysis and signals were corrected for the phase between absorption and dispersion parts. Dietrich asked about the reason for difference in maximum achieved positive and negative polarisations. Yuri said that 7LiH could explain the difference (comment: Stefan proposed similar explanation last autumn due to LiHO on surface of the material beads). Yuri said that normally negative polarisation is higher (in butanol). Gerhard said that the difference between maximum positive/negative has been observed in other experiments too and the difference is real physical one. Jaakko said that the achieved polarisation is limited by the thermodynamics of the heat transfer from the nuclear spin system to the lattice and electron spins. The heat flows in positive and negative polarisation processes are opposite, which could also explain the difference. Dietrich proposed to prove Yuris theory about influence of 7LiH by comparing different 6LiD materials with different chemical compositions in different experiments. c) Yuri showed the local field of proton, deuterium, 6Li and 7Li versus polarisation difference between coils #5 and #10 plot. The diamagnetisation factor obtained corresponds to the theory with ksi = 1.32 +- 0.11. The analysis is based on 2001 data. Yuri proposed to measure the same data in the begin of run, which means to repeat the equal spin temperature measurement for the coils outside. d) Norihiro asked about the status of the microwave system and the new cooling water unit for it. Jaakko said that the general status of the microwave system is good and it is not on the critical path of the preparation work for 2003. e) Fabrice will visit Oxford-Danfysik next week on Thurday - Friday. Naoki cancelled his visit. f) Kaori selected a summer student from Finland for the NMR. The student is specialised to material science. Simulations on the NMR circuit are going on. g) Gerhard said that the four big outer coils on the target cells will stay. In addition one small two turn coil will be embedded into the down stream target cell. Jaakko said that the coil self/mutual inductances and cold volume of the target cells need to measured before changing the target cells for 2003. Yuri suggested to move upstream speer to the most upstream part of upstream target cell to reduce its influence on the NMR circuit. h) Norihiro was programming the PLC for the dilution cryostat. i) Matsuda presented the work done on the LN2 precooling system for the magnet. 4/20 mA current transmitter to control the control valve actuator was built. The vacuum isolated LN2 transfer line from the valve box to magnet was installed. During the test one day was needed before cold Nitrogen was coming from the piping. The reason is the time needed to cool down the long transfer line from the 20 000 l LN2 dewar. During the tests frost was observed on the installed LN2 lines. Thus their isolation vacuum needs to be pumped. j) Masami was making a connector panel for connecting the pt100 thermometers on the target platform to the ELMB of the DCS system. k) Jaakko said that the new pipework of dilution cryostat is almost finished. It needs to be leak tested. The roots pump from Pfeiffer was sent on 14th of March but had not yet arrived to CERN. For the Alcatel rotary pump 3631B technician is coming next Wednesday 26th of March to do the service on site. l) Fabrice said that the magnet gas heater replacement had been cancelled. Jean-Marc had prepared a spare Sun for the magnet. Prerun shifts were discussed.
