Minutes from weekly target meeting 3rd of July 2003 in 888 a) About 1 % of the total polarization difference p+ - p- = 103 % was lost in frozen spin mode during the physics data taking of about 10 days. Possible reasons are the NMR measurement, heat from the beam, and low field during the field rotation. The effect will be tested by changing NMR sweep delay from 10 min to 30 min. b) Yuri will replace the microwave EIO cooling water tube. The old one has some impurity inside. The IMPATT diode system from Bochum has not arrived yet. c) Yuri checked coil #6 NMR line shape. After baseline subtraction the signal has a small negative wiggle at 6 kHz higher than the main peak. 40 kHz sweep window window was tried to remove the wiggle but it did not solve the problem. Jaakko tried dispersion correction with 0.04 mrad phase shift. With this the wiggle can be smoothed out into the baseline. Yuri said that better than 0.7 gauss difference between NMR line centers has been achieved, while the NMR line widths due to dipolar broadening are 4 - 5 gauss. d) For the negative and positive solenoid current two different calibration constants are used for online polarization monitoring. The correction factor is the same that was seen in the TE-calibration with positive and negative solenoid current. e) Norihiro made temperature calibration to the May and June TE calibrations with Baratron and TTH4. The baratron was broken in the beginning of the June calibration. It is being sent to MKS for repair cost estimation. f) Gunter asked the reason for high 5 % error in polarization as presented by Alexandre in A1 asymmetry talk in collaboration meeting. The error is conservative due to problems in the NMR system in 2002. The error in the dilution factor 20 % is also quite high. The reasons for this need to be clarified. g) Jaakko checked the solenoid magnet polarity with -100 A current. The orienteering compass showed magnetic north pole to be in the upstream and south pole in downstream end. After checking the poles, the proper operation of the compass was checked outside with red needle (or "south pole") pointing to magnetic north pole. h) Transverse polarization run is expected from 18th to 27th of July. During the long machine development 23rd - 24th of July microwave polarization reversal is done. This would be also be good time repairing the dipole current lead heater relay. i) The filter material after Busch 3631B 4He rotary pump was changed changed from zeolite to activated charcoal as requested by NA cryogenic operators. The old zeolite was shown to Klaus Barth. No oil contamination is visible on the material. Some of the beads had dark color, which may indicate saturation due to oil vapor.
